Reflection
As we conclude this exhibition of contemporary Northwest Coast art, we reflect on the journey it has taken us on—through stories of identity, and cultural continuity. Each art has highlighted the dynamic ways in which Northwest Coast artists honor their ancestors while innovating within their traditions, using modern techniques and perspectives. They also were able to adapt despite the despicable things that Europeans settlers did. This blend of the past and present shows that these traditions are not static relics of history but rather an evolving expressions of Indigenous identity.
The works exhibited here invite us to appreciate not only the artistry but also the cultural significance that each creation holds for the artist and their community. In witnessing these stories, we go into the unique and vibrant worldviews of the Northwest Coast peoples, enriching our understanding of their deep connection to the land, to each other, and to their heritage.
