Symbolism and Spiritual Arts of the Northwest Coast: A Contemporary Exhibition

About Artist

Susan A. Point O.C., DFA., RCA., D. Litt. is a descendant of the Musqueam People. Her artistic career began when she studied traditional Coast Salish art and design in 1981. Like many First Nations artists, she uses the meaning in traditional art to create new, vibrant works.

"Coast Salish is relatively unknown to most people today as it was an almost lost art form after Europena contact–the reason being that Salish lands were the first to be settled by the Europeans which adversely affected my peoples' traditional lifestyle."

For years, she attempts to revive traditonal Coast Salish art to educate the public to the fact that there was, and still is, another art form indigenous to the central Pacific Northwest Coast.
